Public Consultation 2024
Published: 06 August 2024
BACKGROUND TO THE CONSULTATION
In May 2021, the residents of Coychurch Lower were presented with a choice as to who would take on the community asset for the future. Both Brackla Junior FC and the Community Council put their case in a consultation document delivered to all residential properties in the area. There was a 44.6% return rate which is exceptional for such consultations. The Community Consultation Results 2021 showed 82% of respondents preferring the community council take over the field. This also provided and opportunity for residents to indicate the types of activities and elements they wanted to see there.
In October 2022 the council put a concept plan out for public consultation containing wild flower planting, all weather walking surface, benches/tables, outdoor gym equipment and a possible running track for an athletic club that had expressed an interest in using the field for training. 79% of responders were in favour of the concept plan and 17% against it. There were a number of common concerns raised so the council published a response to the concerns raised in Response to the Public Consultation in November 2022
Bridgend County Borough Council came on board with the funding and expertise to develop the concept plan and their final ground plan was put to the residents in February 2024. This plan provides for a 5-a-side sized football area for the "kickabout" area asked for in the responses to the first consultation and residents were asked if they agreed with the plan, without a regulation sized pitch.
